Michelle "Knit Purl" Hunter first got us hooked on the basics with Building Blocks, transitioned us into the exciting world of colorwork with Building in Color, and is now ready to take knitters to the next level, via Building with Lace!
Building with Lace is a carefully designed sequence of patterns that introduce knitters to lace work, starting with the basics and working towards more difficult patterns - culminating in the creation of a gorgeous stole. This work follows the same format as Michelle's earlier books referenced above, and has been a long awaited addition to this educational series.
All patterns are supported by Michelle's excellent, and free, online video instruction. Club will meet once a month for 12 months.
What happens in sock club stays in sock club, but we will give you a sneak peek. In June, Vanessa will teach how to make a basic pair of socks with No Pattern. That’s right, club members will amaze their friends with their deft ability to whip out a tape measure, measure a foot, use their ninja-like math skills (of counting, multiplication, and division), and produce a custom-fit sock without ever looking at a pattern. More than a party trick, this is a real skill Vanessa thinks all sock knitters should master. With this foundation, the sock club will tackle one of two sock projects each month. (Ambitious knitters may choose both.) One option will always follow a Ravelry pattern that introduces a new skill. The other will be a “choose your own adventure” sock that incorporates that same skill of the month, but is not based on a written pattern. That’s right, the “choose your own adventure” option means we will be designing our own socks. How fun is that?
All students must have completed one sock prior to the first class. Just one. It could fit a baby, or a doll, or even your cat. We don’t care. Just one sock. If you know you’d love sock club, but haven’t finished your first sock, contact Yarns By Design. You can either enroll in Knitting Your First Sock in May or schedule a private sock lesson with Vanessa.
